Running The Diva Fields

Welcome to the no dig Diva fields. Using the finest quality, locally sourced, seasonal vegetables is at the very heart of what we do.  Our fields are based just a few miles outside of Bristol in the village of Burrington.  What was once a 4-acre field of grazing land is now a thriving vegetable plot and orchard supplying the Vegetable Diva with diverse, quality, chemical free ingredients to pack into our delicious recipes. The concept behind the No Dig Diva fields goes hand in hand with our business principles.  These include: working hard towards reducing food miles, using seasonal ingredients, following a 0 waste philosophy and maintaining a packaging free policy.  We are now very proud growers of pesticide and chemical free produce and our aim is to supply the Vegetable Diva with quality ingredients all year round. The No Dig Method From wild fields to a beautifully cared for no dig plot: No dig undisturbed soil is bursting with beneficial organisms and microbes, helping plants to find the right levels of moisture and all-important nutrients. These are transferred to the plants and in turn to the vegetables that we eat, helping us to maintain a healthy gut and promote health and well-being. Mulching once a year, feeds the soil, helps to conserve moisture and reduces the weed populations.  Weeds grow less because undisturbed soil does not need to recover.  This means we can spend more time growing vegetables and less time weeding! What we grow:The land is divided into plots for vegetables, soft fruits, herbs and perennials.  In addition to this we are creating a section for edible flowers and wild flowers to encourage beneficial insects, combat pests and help the local environment.  Edible hedgerows of elderflower, rosehip and hawthorn surround our orchards and we are delighted to support a local small holder who uses the orchard to graze his Black Welsh Mountain sheep.  These gorgeous sheep act as very efficient lawnmowers and in turn we hope to help to preserve this rare breed. What we grow:The list is extensive, we hope to fully supply our restaurant in the years to come;

We are so excited by the health and productivity of our fields and we hope that you will enjoy eating our vegetables as much as we enjoy nurturing them.

The Diva Orchard

Welcome to our cold drinks supplier..... The Diva orchard is situated in the village of Burrington , that nestles under the North side of the Mendip Hills in Somerset.  The traditional style orchard provides us with several varieties of apple, including Beauty of Bath, Cox’s Orange Pippin and Red Falstaff. We also have pears, plums, quince and medlars to add to our ingredient list. All of the trees are grown naturally without the use of chemical sprays or fertilizers. The blossom and wild flowers are nectar to our bees and the hedgerows are abundant with blackberry and wild sloes.  All the trees are grown without the use of chemical sprays or fertilisers. There are hives of bees tucked away in the corner and when the blossom is out, the air is heavy with the buzz of insects busily working the trees and wild flowers. If you would like to find out more about looking after fruit trees and pruning, why not book onto one of my orchard days in the winter. You can contact me on; les.davies@westcountryman.co.uk
